Charity Rainbow Flag
A Symbol for over 25 Years
"It all goes back to the first moment of the first flag back in 1978 for me. Raising it up and seeing it there blowing in the wind for everyone to see. It completely astounded me that people just got it, in an instant like a bolt of lightning - that it was their flag. It belonged to all of us. It was the most thrilling moment of my life. Because I knew right then this was the most important thing I would ever do - that my whole life was going to be about the rainbow flag."
- Gilbert Baker, creator of the
Rainbow Flag (above, right)
Rainbow25 is a worldwide celebration of the creation of the most widely recognized LGBT symbol in history, the rainbow flag. On the 25th Anniversary of the Rainbow Flag's birth, Rainbow25, a nonprofit corporation, restored the flag to its original eight colors, chronicling its history, and acknowledging the Flag's powerful impact on the LGBT community and culture at large.
On June 15, 2003, Gilbert Baker and Rainbow25 unfurled a 1.25 mile long "Sea to Sea" Rainbow25 Flag on Duval Street in Key West, Florida - the longest rainbow flag in history! Immediately after, the official 25th anniversary flag was divided into 100+ sections and shipped around the world to Pride groups to help them celebrate the year of the flag!
As a proud member of InterPride - the International Organization of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Coordinators, Rainbow Celebrations was pleased to receive a signed, 16' x 25' foot section of the original Rainbow25 Flag.

On June 18, 2003, Rainbow Celebrations and Nebraska Pride celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Rainbow Flag's birth with the unveiling of Nebraska's largest rainbow flag. The flag measures 20' x 50' and includes the original eight colors - fuchsia, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue and purple.
The Nebraska Pride Charity Rainbow Flag was made possible by the generous sponsorship of over 50 individuals, businesses and organizations! Sewn by Miss Gay Pride Nebraska 2002 Annastasia Worthington, the flag will continue to be a perennial centerpiece of the annual GLBT Pride Parade.
Each sponsor is entitled to have one or two individuals help carry the Rainbow Flag in the parade each year. As the flag passes by, Nebraska Pride encourages the spectators to toss coins onto the flag or place money in the donation containers walking alongside the flag.
Afterward, the money collected from the Nebraska Pride Charity Rainbow Flag is presented to a pre-selected charity on behalf of the many sponsors and Nebraska Pride!

Special acknowledgement to Miss Gay Pride 2002 Annastasia (Kevin Bucknell) as well as Roger Matzen and Marcus Fender for their time and effort in sewing the flag!
The Nebraska Pride Charity Rainbow Flag is only used for the annual GLBT Pride Parade, while the Nebraska segment of the official Rainbow25 Flag is available for display upon request. This flag makes a great backdrop for your events as well as presenting a much needed educational tool and opportunity to reach out into our extended communities.
